Town doctor Hozumi and close friend and cartoonist Soeda fall in love with Asako. Hozumi gives away Asako to Soeda. The two get married. But Soeda makes a mistress and abuses Asako after turning into a sadist. Hozumi is despised by Soeda. Still, Hozumi never stops loving Asako. In the wake of a certain incident, however, his pure love transforms into a hate. It was based on its namesake fiction authored by Junichiro Tanizaki from his own experience, and made into a live-action movie in modern day setting by Eiji Uchida. A morass of the love triangle was depicted cynically with black humor.
